Abstract
We observe an unexpected, new dissipation peak as a function of magnetic field orientation in Nb–a-Si multilayers. This peak depends differently on current, anisotropy, and magnetic field to the usual dissipation in layered anisotropic superconductors which is also seen. This new peak is most easily visible for thin a-Si layers and is consistent with a crossover from 3D to 2D vortex behavior as the field direction approaches the plane of the layers.
