Abstract

A NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site in Environmental Monitoring and Modeling was conducted by the school of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (CEES) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in the summer of 1997. Students engaged in a number of 'hands-on' activities designed to encourage them to pursue careers in science and engineering. Pre- and post-experience questionnaires were administered to the students, along with a closing interview. Overall, the REU students completed their program with a realistic and positive attitude regarding research.
