Modeling and Optimization of Routing Problems for Community Elderly Care Service

Abstract

Population aging is a common issue in many countries. Facing the needs of multi-level, multi-directional and diversified medical and health services for the elderly, we need to rationally allocate resources and provide effective services to them to their satisfaction. This paper reviews the research status of the path planning of community nursing workers, and studies a routing problem of community nursing services. This study aims to effectively reduce the waiting time for elderly patients and improve their satisfaction. A novel mixed-integer programming model is developed to solve the problem. The model is tested in different scenarios, including different number of customers, time window, maximum value and penalty coefficient beyond time window, and customer illness severity weight. Our findings provide indirect insights on how community elderly care services can help improve customer satisfaction.
