N2 - We present here, the results of an investigation of the intrinsic magnetic properties of high-quality lanthanum manganate crystals. Ferromagnetic resonance experiments show that the linewidth is small (∼100Oe) and independent of temperature, key indications of magnetic homogeneity. The magnetization shows full alignment of the manganese spins; however, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy is not monotonic and displays an abrupt change near the ordering temperature. The results are discussed in terms of a two-phase model.
