Abstract
Providing respiratory support is a crucial aspect of the management of critically ill neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). There are a plethora of respiratory devices, with a multitude of modes of ventilation that can be used in the NICU. This chapter provides a brief review of the various types of invasive and noninvasive ventilation used in the NICU. In addition to providing details of the specific modality of ventilation, the chapter provides evidence-based specific recommendations of their utility in the care of the sick newborn.
