Abstract
An integrated, collaborative approach between engineering and biology faculty to introduce chemical engineering students to the application of engineering principles in biological systems at the lower levels was developed. Through specially designed courses and active learning modules that can be easily adapted to any course, students are exposed to the newest pillar of chemical engineering. The collaborative approach to integrating biology and chemical engineering helps prepare students for industrially sponsored projects at the junior and senior level. The strategy also enables faculty to build increasing detail and technical content into problems and projects.
