Abstract
This chapter reviews the work performed by a human systems engineering group that endeavored to incorporate user-centered design best practices into military advanced technology research and development. It begins with an overview of human systems engineering, followed by a discussion of its role in technology research and development (R&D). It then introduces a model for including human systems engineering in new technology development that has much in common with living lab framework, and shares two real-world examples of applying the model with a multidisciplinary systems development team.
