Hole burning by momentum redistribution of atoms via spontaneous emission

Research output: Contribution to conference › Paper › peer-review

Abstract

A new approach to saturation spectroscopy is proposed, wherein the hole in the Doppler profile is produced by removing the atoms in the velocity group where the hole is burned into the neighboring velocity groups of the same ground level through optical pumping and momentum redistribution via spontaneous emission. As a result, the requirement on the intensities on the driving laser fields is low, limited only by the interaction time. A theoretical model illustrates the approach.
