Abstract
Cough-variant asthma (CVA) was defined many years ago. Over time, it has become evident that CVA is part of the asthma spectrum, sharing much of the physiology and biology of classic asthma. Treatments for CVA and classic asthma are also similar. In contrast, a newly defined cough subset, atopic cough, shares allergic roots with CVA but appears to differ in its physiology, biology, and treatment. Atopic cough is not part of the asthma spectrum and does not progress to classic asthma.
