Abstract

Liver cirrhosis is a common cause of intrahepatic portal hypertension, which leads to several profound effects on the body. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt has gained wide use for complications of cirrhosis. Liver transplantation remains the ultimate treatment for replacement of irreversibly diseased liver parenchyma causing portal hypertension.
