Abstract
The release of drug from lozenge formulation which is an instance of matrix-type drug-delivery system was investigated. This experiment exposed students to basic principles of drug delivery and chemical engineering. The increase in dissolved-drug concentration in water was observed by students due to increase in color intensity of water which enabled spectrophotometric measurement of drug concentration. The fraction of drug released was also determined by material balance.
