Abstract

Immersive Analytics brings 3D data visualization to virtual reality, immersing users directly into the data. The technology focuses on bringing humans and computers closer together to develop human intuition via human computer interaction. In order to effectively utilize this technique to benefit data analytics, principles must be established to see what kind of 3D user interfaces are the best fit for an everyday immersive analytics platform. In an immersive environment embedded with natural hand interaction, we found that users who perform in a static state, where no physical or virtual navigation of the environment is present, are more beneficial to the interpretation of the data. Prior VR experience and spatial ability also affect the completion time of given task, while reported human factors in gender and age do not seem to play a major role.
